The Family & Children’s Law Center provides high quality, low cost legal advice and representation in family law matters, including domestic violence, divorce, paternity, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, step-parent adoption, and guardianship. The Center uses a sliding scale fee arrangement ($0 - $125 per appointment based on income).

The Legal Self Help Center of Marin provides legal assistance to self-represented litigants and legal information to all. The Center assists individuals to prepare their own legal forms and pleadings. The Center understands the law that applies to litigants’ legal issues, knows the civil and court procedural requirements related to their legal matter, and provides training to self-represented litigants on how to present their legal matter at hearing, trial, or mediation. If the customer requires legal services other than those available, an appropriate referral is made.

Marin Advocates for Children has two programs: the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program and the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) program. CASA provides trained volunteer advocates for children in the dependency system and the juvenile and probate courts. CAPC provides training to individuals under the law mandated to report child abuse and neglect. The Council also coordinates the county’s Child Death Review Team and convenes community meetings on topics relevant to preventing and treating child abuse and neglect.

The Marin County Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service is sponsored as a public service for those who need an independent lawyer’s advice and can pay a reasonable fee. The Lawyer Referral Service schedules a half-hour consultation for a $35 fee, with an attorney who is qualified in those areas necessary to meet your specific legal needs.

Marin Mediation Services provides dispute resolution services for all civil issues including but not limited to: housing, property, private party business, personal injury, employment, environmental, and community property. Free information on landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities is also provided. Bi-annual mediation trainings are open to the public. Marin Mediation Services also helps to resolve certain issues in juvenile delinquency matters. Fees are based on a sliding scale.
